Nurture

Wednesday evenings are devoted to spiritual practices and learning. In recent years, we have been enriched by the teachings of Cynthia Bourgeault, Richard Rohr, James Finley, Ken Wilber, Eckhart Tolle, Katie Byron, Helen Palmer, Leslie Hershberger, Teilhard de Chardin, Brian Swimme, Matthew Fox, Bruce Sanguin, Tom Thresher, Robert Kegan, Michael Dowd, Connie Barlow, Marcus Borg, Diana Butler Bass and many others. In addition, we have offered weekly Bible study, as we attempt to deepen our understanding of our Christian tradition in conversation with an ever changing and expanding world. We have engaged in meditative reading of The Gospel of Thomas, the early desert mothers and fathers, The Cloud of Unknowing, and other classical, mystical texts. We are dedicated to nurturing our spirits and our minds.

Sunday mornings provide opportunity for children to experience community as they explore Bible stories, experienced in different modalities. We use a Rotation model for education, where children examine a passage from Scripture in three consecutive weeks. One week might use an art or craft project in conjunction with the passage. Another week might use a cooking activity or games or video to further the children’s learning and bonding. As children grow older, we offer ways in which they can continue involvement in our church through education, fellowship and service. Confirmation is led by our pastor for young people, grade 8 and older.
